Our first New Year’s Eve as a married couple we booked a lovely b and b, but forgot to make dinner reservations. We waited forever at a chain restaurant, meanwhile I drank a large alcoholic beverage, got very buzzed, only to be followed by a large pasta dinner… so… we got back to the b and b only to find shrimp cocktail and champagne waiting for us… but we fell asleep at 10!!!! Woke up at 2, blearily said “Happy New Year!” and then we fell back asleep. The next morning at breakfast all the other, younger and unmarried couples gushed about how they welcomed the new year. We, the “old” married couple sunk in our seats… we had slept right through it!
Well, I was just about to post about how nice it is to be in the central time zone now where we can see the ball drop at 11. But… apparently they delay the coverage… cause the ball didn’t just drop.
Oh well… daddy is already sleeping. He’s been working hard all week. Caroline just fell asleep on me. On this sixth new year’s as a married couple we won’t greet the new year at midnight… we’ll sleep through it. But we’ve already kissed. And we’re so grateful for what this year has brought. And we’re so joyful to be greeting this new year together, awake or not.
My mom and dad are apart for New Year’s Eve for the first time in their 40 years of being involved with one another. Mom is a bit sad about that, but dad says there could be no better reason for them to be apart. Indeed.
Tomorrow we ring in the new year with a morning bath for Caroline (will that go better than the evening baths before???) and then a portrait session and an appliance shopping (we have a weary washer and dryer and we’re using our washer and dryer A LOT these days…) at a certain major department store. We’ll get pics of Caroline in the baptismal gown that was made for me and in the outfit in which I came home from the hospital 32 years ago. She wore this outfit under her baptismal gown on Sunday. And maybe some pics in diaper alone!
Happy New Year all! May blessings abound for each and every one of you!
