- A Third Day of Threeness– Kev continues to work at a temporary job which he has been enjoying a great deal. They just hired him on for a second project, likely their last project until fall. In order for the hire to stick he had to pass a certain number of qualifying exams with a certain score. He did this by last Friday (along with a number of the other folks- all of them, I think). They then were told that they could come in on Monday if they wanted to (originally they were told that they would not get the holiday due to the short term nature of the project), but as the time on Monday had been slated for qualifying, there wouldn’t be much (or anything) to do, so they could stay home without penalty (and without pay) on Monday if they so desired. So Kev came home on Friday and explained this to me saying “So, money? Or care for Caroline?” Given that both are precious and needed we agreed to think on it over the weekend. By last night, looking around at a chaotic house, and knowing how tired we all were I proposed that he stay home and that take a slow start to the day and then work at getting things in order at home. I thought this would be worth the money that would not be coming in. And it certainly was! It was such a gift to so fully share parenting months 2-4 and a half. And Caroline and I miss daddy Mondays through Fridays now. And so, once again today, we took turns with her and got SO MUCH accomplished. Three days straight of being all three together- LOVE IT.
- Bringing Order Out of Chaos– I’m settling in for the night in a dramatically more ordered room. I can’t see into the closet because the curtain is pulled, but I know that behind that curtain is the most orderly closet we’ve had since we moved in. The living area is also in much better shape as Kev spent all day dealing with accumulated papers. We unearthed a filing system for important documents that I set up before our move and we will soon clear out old unneeded documents, and change some tabs, and start keeping better track of important documents here. My office is also better than it was. I think the kitchen is too. Ah… it will be so nice to spend the day with Caroline in a more ordered home tomorrow. In the process of ordering I found a little notebook from AGES ago- I think it is from 7th grade. I was using it as an assignment book. I have always, it seems, created organizational systems that work beautifully for awhile- often a brief while- and are then abandoned. I had a great week of meticulous assignment tracking in 7th grade! I’m a bit better than that now, but it is not so different from my spurts with iCal and various other such things. I LOVE getting myself organized, and by the grace of God I hope some day to maintain organization.
